Lavish Academy offers a pathway to the Utah barbering permit through 130 supervised training hours, typically about 3.5–4 weeks of active training. State approval, your schedule and exam timing affect the overall timeline. Start dates must be confirmed with Jaymes or Selena.

That's not a loophole. It's the state's new front door. And the people who walk through it early — while the field is wide open — are the ones who'll have a head start building a clientele.

​What a barbering career actually looks like

​

Barbering is one of the few real crafts you can turn into a career fast — and then take anywhere.

  • You're in demand. People need haircuts in good times and bad. It's about as recession-proof as a trade gets.

  • You control your path. Work a chair in an established shop, build your book, rent your own chair, and one day run your own. The ladder is yours to climb.

  • Your name travels with you. A great barber builds a following. Once clients trust your hands, they follow you — that's leverage no employer can take away.

  • Flexibility. Set your hours, your style, your specialty. Few careers let you start this fast and steer this freely.

 

What your permit unlocks

Your barbering permit makes it legal to cut hair for paying clients anywhere in Utah — haircuts, fades, clipper and shear work, razor and beard work, and hairpieces.

If you've been cutting on the side, this is how you go pro: market yourself openly, work in a real licensed shop, and put your name on your work without looking over your shoulder. Legitimacy isn't just a piece of paper — it's the difference between a side hustle and a career.

Your ceiling is yours to set

​

We won't hand you a fake number. What a barber earns comes down to skill, hustle, the clientele you build, and whether you're working a chair or renting your own. Some treat it as steady work; some build it into a serious living and their own shop. The craft gives you the ceiling — what you do with it is on you.

Lavish provides instruction, direct supervision and feedback. Students schedule and pay for their own state exam and application. We help attract models, but do not guarantee a full practice schedule; recruiting models and studying between sessions are recommended habits for success.

Why learn it at Lavish

Anyone can teach you to hold clippers. We train you to be a professional.

  • A real shop, not a classroom. You learn on real clients, on a working floor, from instructors licensed by the state of Utah.

  • Booked Out built in. Lavish provides app access for study materials and practice tests at no extra cost, plus hands-on practical test preparation on Tuesdays.

  • Practical experience and a permit pathway. You complete supervised training in a working shop, then complete the required exam and application steps. Training completion does not guarantee credential issuance or employment.

  • Selective by design. We take only four apprentices at a time, two per instructor. If you earn a seat, you know it meant something.
