Lavish Academy FAQ
How long does training take?
130 supervised hours, and full time (40 hours a week) takes about 3½ weeks and part time (20 hours a week) about 6½ weeks. Whatever schedule you choose must be consistent every week. State approval, your schedule and exam timing affect the overall timeline. Start dates require confirmation. Countable training begins after state apprenticeship approval.
How many students do you take?
Four seats total, two per supervising instructor.
What does it cost?
Tuition is $2,500, paid in full once you're approved as ready and before your start date. This total includes a $1,500 non-refundable enrollment fee. There is no split payment, no grace period and no in-house payment plan, and no seat is held until tuition is paid in full. Personal tools and state application and exam fees are separate.
What if I withdraw?
The $1,500 enrollment fee is non-refundable. The remaining $1,000 is partially refundable based on hours completed. If you want to return later, you start over with a clean slate and pay the full $2,500 tuition again.
Is Intro required?
Yes. Intro to Barbering ($250, about 2 hours) is required. To register, call or text 801-709-1171. It is held one night a month, normally the last Wednesday, and start and end times may adjust slightly to fit work schedules. After class, students practice and return for a readiness check on an instructor-determined timeline. Completing Intro does not guarantee an immediate spot in the program. Apprenticeship enrollment is arranged through Jaymes or Selena after approval.
What does Lavish provide?
Instruction, supervised in-house haircuts and lessons, hands-on practical test preparation, and Booked Out study materials and app practice tests at no extra cost. Lavish provides the station and chair, capes, neck strips, cleaning materials and a straight razor starter pack.
What tools do I bring?
Clippers, trimmers, shears and a spray bottle. Your full tool kit is due on day 3, your first practical day.
What if I miss a day?
Give at least 24 hours' notice for any absence. A first no-call no-show results in a written warning, and a second results in a dismissal review with your instructor. Makeup hours are negotiable and are added to your regular training days by arriving early or staying late, based on instructor availability. Until missed hours are made up, your completion date moves back.
Will Lavish supply all my practice clients?
Lavish helps attract models and supports booking, supervision and feedback, but any shortfall in models must be covered by the student. Recruit your own models, share your booking link and study between sessions. Tell your instructor early if you need more practice opportunities.
How are hours recorded?
Complete daily hours and service logs and have your instructor review and sign them before leaving. Record actual eligible supervised training. Independent app study is not automatically counted toward training hours. Lavish's first 15 hours involve no cutting; instructor approval is required before client haircuts.
How do practice tests and state exams work?
Lavish's hands-on practical practice tests are Tuesdays only. Booked Out app practice tests are available anytime. Students schedule their own state exam and pay application and exam fees. We recommend booking about one week before anticipated completion for an eligible exam date after training is complete.
What happens after payment?
Lavish submits your state apprenticeship registration. Once the state approves it, you confirm your training schedule, Booked Out login and instructor contact. State forms and payment receipts are separate. Completing training does not guarantee exam success, credential issuance or employment. Independent work begins only after your required credential is issued and verified.
